Coaldale is a town 11 km east of Lethbridge on the Crowsnest Highway. It became a village in 1919 and was incorporated as a town in 1952.

Birds of prey and big employers

Coaldale is home to the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre and the Gem of the West Museum, and McCain Foods opened a processing plant here in 2000. The Coaldale Copperheads junior hockey team moved from Lethbridge in 2007 and play at the Sportsplex. The town has six schools, including Kate Andrews High School, which won the Reach for the Top national championship in 1985. Growing towns often mix older service lines with new subdivisions.
