Barons is a village 51 km north of Lethbridge on Highway 23, in the dry region known as Palliser's Triangle. It became a village on May 6, 1910.
What that means for your plumbing
Barons drains to a sewage lagoon west of the village and gets its water through a 16 km regional pipeline shared with Nobleford and the county. Older homes in a small village may have original drains under the floor; if they're slow, see drain cleaning.
Distance matters
Being a fair drive from Lethbridge means help can take longer in a storm. Know where your main shut-off is, keep it easy to reach, and test it once a year so it turns when you need it.
A CPR town and a film set
The Canadian Pacific Railway bought the townsite early in 1909, and Charles S. Noble, acting for the CPR, sold lots to settlers. The station was named "Baron", but local usage turned it into "Barons". Early buildings included a hardware store, lumber yards, a bank, a dance hall and an opera house. In 1978 the village school stood in for young Clark Kent's school in the film Superman. The last two grain elevators came down in 2012. In older village homes, pipes may run through unheated spaces that were never meant to hold plumbing, so check them before winter.
